 Is treatment safe?

Yes. I am statutorily registered with the  General Osteopathic Council. Osteopaths have very in-depth clinical training and I am a  primary health professionals who can be consulted without a GP referral.

How can I consult Alison?

Face-to-face or online consultations for osteopathy or health and well-being coaching.

Can I just come for a second opinion?

Yes, I often see people who have come in for a second opinion.

Does Alison help with muscular, tendon and ligament injuries?

Yes, while the area of injury is assessed it is always in relation to the whole body, not in isolation.

I don’t like being manipulated (clicked), can I still have osteopathic treatment?

Yes. I very rarely uses high velocity manipulation as there are far more effective and gentle ways to treat. Treatment is always a two way conversation to see what you are comfortable with,  you can decline any technique.

I have osteoporosis can I still receive osteopathic treatment?

Yes. I am experienced in treating people with osteoporosis and can gently help to relieve the discomfort, spasms and pain associated with this condition. She can also help with advising on general lifestyle to deal with this condition and refers directly for scans to check bone density when appropriate.

I am hypermobile or my child is hypermobile. Is it ok to have treatment.

Alison has many years experience in treating people with hypermobility.  She is well aware of the dangers of not creating excessive movement in the affected joints and osteopathy is very helpful for this and receives referrrals from rheumatologists with hypermobility as treatment from an osteopath experienced with hypermobility can be very helpful.

Is there an upper / lower age limit for treatment?

I don’t have any age limit at my practice as I have trained in treating very tiny babies right through all age ranges to the very elderly, All treatment is tailored to you and age appropriate.

In what situation would a video consultation be useful and how does it work?

A video osteopathic  consultation can be very useful when you are travelling for work, abroad on holiday and have had an accident, or you cannot get to the practice because of caring for someone or immobility.

The hands-on treatment that Alison is known for is only part of her role, a large part of the examination in the clinic is observational. By video she will assess the clinical situation and give advice based on sound clinical judgementSelf directed tests can be carried out to help diagnose the problem. Health coaching is effective on line or in person helping you to achieve goals to improve your general health.

What  do I need to access video consultations?

A good internet connection (with a private video platform, not on social media) in a well-lit room.

I have insurance, can Alison invoice the insurance company direct?

No I’m sorry. You will need to pay the fee at the time of the consultation and then you can use the receipt if you wish to claim back fees from a 3rd party.

Can I pay my fee at a later date?

Payments need to be made at the time of consultation or for ergonomic assessment in advance.  The fees quoted reflect the on the day payment charge if fees are paid later then the higher charge of an increase of 10% is charged.

What is the difference between an osteopath, physiotherapist, chiropractor or sports therapist?

Osteopathy is a unique clinical regulated profession. The Osteopath looks for the root cause of the problem assessing the injury in relation to the rest of the body not as an isolated part. Think of the osteopath as an engineer for the human body. Rehabilitation exercises are used, but after treatment, not in isolation. Xrays, MRI scans and Bone Density Scans may be referred for in the same as doctors do to confirm pathology, degeneration or anatomical abnormalities when appropriate. Osteopaths treat the whole body not just back pain.

Physiotherapists  help  rehabilitation through exercise. They also undertake rehabilitation after an illness such as a stroke.

Chiropractors tend to focus on the spine and make greater use of high-velocity thrusts ( when you hear a click) of the spine.

Sports Therapists are trained to improve sports performance and to treat injuries when related to sport.
