Voice Problems

Laryngeal Osteopathy

Having worked with performers for many years., I help  many singers and professional voice users  who are finding they are having problems using their voice.

The delicate muscles surrounding muscles and joints of the larynx need to be finally balanced as do the muscles of breathing, strains from the rest of the body can also affect the voice .

So when you come in with a voice problem you will have a full postural assessment as well as. assessing  the area around the larynx

Laryngeal manipulation involves treating these delicate muscles and joints that affect the voice and I always work within your comfort zone, . Laryngeal manipulation can help with voice problems when there is a mechanical strain of these muscles and joints.  After surgery for voice problems treatment can help as part of the rehab process.  I am very happy to see professional and amateur performers and non performers.

Teachers, Presenters, Business Speakers

Many people have to use their voice for work such as teachers, solicitors, doctors, presenters, hospitality staff etc. In a busy and sometimes noisy environment strain to the voice can occur and it is always easier to sort something out if it is treated early.

Some of the problems you may experience with your voice

Tightness in throat
Hoarseness
Voice cutting out at points
Restriction in the chest
Back or neck pain
Alteration in quality of voice
Breathing Problems

Often it is also beneficial to see a speech / voice therapist and or singing teacher, to make sure you are using the best technique, as well as osteopathic treatment to reduce the risk of reoccurrence. I  can give you advice on whether this is something you need at the time of the consultation.

When further investigations are necessary

It is of course always important to check that voice problems are not due to a more pathological cause. I will carry out a full examination and will assess your condition, if you need further examinations or medical tests I  will refer you to the most appropriate specialist.
